WebsiteTherapy

I built websites for therapists. Then I built something better.

WebsiteTherapy started because I saw two things clearly: my clients deserved more than what I could give them as a solo developer, and the way people find therapists was about to change forever.

How this started.

I've been building websites for therapists for years. WordPress sites, mostly. Good ones — custom themes, SEO, the whole setup. My clients trusted me with their web presence, and I took that seriously.

But the model had a problem I couldn't solve.

When a therapist wanted to update their bio, they'd email me. I'd see it sometime that day, add it to my list, and get to it within a few days. Then I'd invoice them. For a text change.

It wasn't their fault for asking. It wasn't my fault for charging. It's just how the developer model works — there's a human in the middle of every change, and humans have limits.

The real problem was everything I couldn't do. I couldn't write blog posts for every client. I couldn't maintain their social presence across platforms. I couldn't answer their visitors' questions at midnight. I couldn't keep their Google Business Profile in sync. I couldn't make sure their site was discoverable by ChatGPT.

I could build a beautiful website. But a beautiful website that sits there isn't growing anyone's practice.

Then the ground moved.

In 2024, I started hearing the same thing from therapists: Psychology Today referrals — the main lead source for most of my clients — were drying up. Therapists on forums and in consultation groups described steep drops, and ClearHealthCosts reported the complaint in December 2025 (Psychology Today told them its overall traffic and contacts have remained strong). No one has published hard numbers, but the pattern was hard to miss.

At the same time, something new was growing: people asking ChatGPT to find them a therapist. Not searching Google. Not browsing directories. Asking an AI.

And here's what I realized: AI reads everything, so the page it cites should be one you own. ChatGPT reads Psychology Today too; in our own study of 96 AI answers, PT was the most-cited directory. But a directory profile is rented: a fixed template, your competitors listed beside you, gone when you stop paying. Your own website is the reference you control. The facts on it are yours to state, they stay current because you keep them current, and an AI answer that cites it sends the reader to you, not to a list.

Most of my clients' websites weren't built for this world. No structured data. No schema markup. AI crawlers blocked by default. Content not formatted in ways AI engines can cite. Their sites were fine for 2020. But we're not in 2020 anymore.

So I built what I wished existed.

A platform where the AI does what I used to do — but better.

WebsiteTherapy replaces the developer model entirely. Instead of emailing me and waiting, my clients chat with an AI assistant that:

  • Makes changes in seconds, not days
  • Writes blog posts they'd never have time to write
  • Keeps Facebook and Instagram active (Social Media add-on)
  • Answers visitor questions 24/7
  • Keeps their Google Business Profile complete and drafts review replies that never confirm someone is a client
  • Keeps their site optimized for both Google and AI search
  • Learns their preferences and gets better over time

Everything I did for my clients, plus everything I couldn't.

Why therapists first.

I didn't pick therapists because it's a good market (though it is). I picked therapists because I know them.

I know that their websites all need the same pages — About, Services, Insurance, Get Started, Blog, Contact. I know that they care about accessibility because they serve clients with disabilities. I know that crisis resources need to be visible, that HIPAA means the visitor agent can never ask for health information, that a therapist can't ask clients for reviews, and that a review reply must never confirm someone is a client.

Building for therapists meant I could make every decision with a specific person in mind. Not “small business owners.” Not “service professionals.” Dr. Sarah Miller, who has 23 clients, accepts 4 insurance plans, specializes in anxiety and EMDR, and hasn't updated her website since 2023.

What we believe.

Conversation-first.

Your AI assistant handles the day-to-day. When you need a human, we're one message away. If you have to figure things out alone, we failed.

No lock-in.

Your website is a GitHub repository you can download anytime. Your data exports as CSV. If you leave, you take everything.

Preview everything.

Never publish a change you can't see first. Every edit, every blog post, every social post — previewed in full context before going live.

Therapist-specific, not therapist-themed.

Crisis protocols, HIPAA awareness, superbill generation, intake packets, Good Faith Estimate — these features exist because therapists need them.

AI discoverability is the product.

Every feature is evaluated through one lens: does this help the therapist get found?

Less is more.

Your assistant surfaces what's worth knowing and stays quiet when nothing is. Sparse communication means every message matters.

Where we're going.

WebsiteTherapy launches with therapists and mental health professionals. But the platform underneath — AI-managed websites, visitor agents, content automation, AI discoverability — works for any service business.

The expansion path: therapists → mental health professionals → healthcare providers → service businesses.

We'd rather be the best platform for 100 therapists than a mediocre platform for 10,000 businesses.
